HOT ROCKET AT THE CAMBRIDGE MUSEUM OF TECHNOLOGY
NOW OPEN
GOOD FOOD.
GREAT COFFEE.
SOMEWHERE TO
CALL HOME.
After years spent feeding film crews, popping up at festivals and heritage sites and generally taking our kitchen wherever it’s needed, Hot Rocket has put down some roots.
You’ll now find our independent Cambridge café in the Lower Yard at Cambridge Museum of Technology, just off the River Cam on Cheddars Lane. Currently we’re serving from our vintage coffee ambulance, before moving more permanently into the cafe space in October.
We’re all about great barista coffee, fresh pastries, breakfast and lunch – whether you’re visiting the Museum, meeting a friend, walking the dog or looking for somewhere to stop along the river.
No museum ticket required (but definitely encouraged for those with time!) just come on down.

Opening hours:
7-days-a-week. 8am - 4pm.
Walkers, cyclists, little people and four-legged friends are all very welcome.
We’re settling into our new home in the Lower Yard at Cambridge Museum of Technology, where we officially opened the hatch on Tuesday 8 September.
For September, we’ll be serving from our vintage ambulance coffee van while we get to work behind the scenes on the café itself – with plans to move fully into the space in October.
We’ve got plenty planned. We want to give the café and Lower Yard a new lease of life, taking inspiration from the Museum’s incredible industrial heritage and creating a space that feels properly connected to its surroundings. Think a little industrial revolution influence, good seating and a Lower Yard that’s a genuinely lovely place to stop, sit and stay a while.
In the meantime, the ambulance will be keeping Riverside caffeinated and well-fed with barista coffee, pastries, cakes, deli sandwiches, salads and plenty of good things to grab and go.
Come and find us serving 7-days-a-week – and watch this space for more news.

WHAT’S COOKING?
Expect proper barista coffee, fresh pastries and a changing selection of breakfasts, lunches and treats, with the same approach to food we bring to everything Hot Rocket does. That means great ingredients, big flavours and food made properly – whether it’s something to grab with a coffee or a lunch worth hanging around for. Our menu will change with the seasons, what’s good and what we fancy cooking, so there should always be a reason to come back and see what’s new.
LOCAL WHERE IT COUNTS
Hot Rocket might spend a lot of time on the road, but we’re a small independent business with our roots firmly in this part of the world. Andrew lives just down the road in Saffron Walden, and has always believed that good food starts with good ingredients and good people.
We work with fantastic independent producers and suppliers, sourcing locally wherever we can – including Magness Farm just outside Saffron Walden – alongside some of our favourite British producers, including Creedy Carver, Keen’s Cheddar and Montgomery’s Cheese. Now we get to bring those relationships to our permanent home in Cambridge.
We’re incredibly proud to be working alongside the Cambridge Museum of Technology as its independent café operator.
Housed in Cambridge’s historic Victorian pumping station, the Museum is one of those places you can walk past a hundred times without quite realising how much is hiding behind the gates.
We want the café to feel like part of that wider place: somewhere for the local community as much as Museum visitors, and a reason to stop, meet, eat and spend a little longer here.
We’ll be working closely with the Museum on what comes next, from everyday café life to events, collaborations and making use of some of the brilliant spaces across the site.
We’ve got plenty of ideas.
